Bend It Like Shakira With Beads!

Colombian singer Shakira has teamed up with UNICEF and Mango to launch a line of T-shirts just in time for the 2010 World Cup in South Africa, in Madrid, Spain on June 6, 2010. The shirts will benefit the Barefoot Foundation, a charity that Shakira founded, which works on providing education worldwide. Proceeds from the sale of the shirts will go towards early childhood education initiatives in South Africa. Photo by Almagro/ABACAPRESS.COM Photo via Newscom

Soccer or football or ‘soka’ in Swahili for that matter, is not just a game but a fever, a passion and a religion for many. This year, the FIFA World Cup is being hosted for the first time in Africa. It is truly a world event showcased not only by many countries participating in the tournament, but by the evolution of football-related fashion.

Now dig this: Shakira, a Columbian singer has partnered with Mango, a Spanish fashion giant and UNICEF to design a collection of African-inspired t-shirts called Waka Waka to be sold during the World Cup tournament as well as online. And what is best about the t-shirt campaign is that its profits will benefit early childhood education initiatives in South Africa through the Barefoot Foundation, founded by Shakira herself.

Now that’s what I call fashion globalization for a cause and Shakira has always been a favorite darling of the masses through her humble attitude and raw but chic dressing style. During the t-shirt launch, she rocked one of the t-shirts herself, which illustrated Africa as the face of a lion. Her toned-down look was matched by just a couple of cool beaded bracelets and a silver ring, proof enough to show that you can certainly make a unique fashion statement through simple earthy jewelry. So kick-start the FIFA World Cup your own way by donning some exotic beads and get ready to bend it like Shakira!
