Rose McGowan Teaches Us the Art of Wearing Turquoise

LOS ANGELES - NOV 13: Rose McGowan arrives at the MOCA's Annual Gala The Artist's Museum Happening 2010 at Museum of Contemporary Art on November 13, 2010 in Los Angeles, CA Photo via Newscom Photo via Newscom

Over the ages, turquoise has been believed to be strong enough to cure snakebites, bring about positive dreams by the Native Americans, placed in guns by the Apache Indians thinking that it would make them shoot straight and even thought to forecast the weather! In the 21st century this wonderful gemstone is worn not as a fad or fashion statement but as a timeless tribute to the gem itself.

Whether you wear turquoise jewelry casually with a simple shirt and jeans or more formally against the softness of a silky evening gown, the spiritual turquoise stones will surely hypnotize all those around you, like how it did for Rose McGowan at the Museum of Contemporary Art's annual gala in Los Angeles. Her turquoise tear drop earrings and chunky bracelets were the perfect compliments to her emerald green Issa silk gown and they made the Charmed actress stand out amidst the likes of Kate Bosworth, Gwen Stefani and Rachel Bilson.

Or I think it would be more appropriate to say that her gown complimented her earrings and bracelets because turquoise is the kind of gemstone where you select your jewelry first and THEN find the perfect dress to accessorize it! One thing I would have changed though is the upper green part of the teardrop earrings which looked slightly out of place in the ensemble.

Rather, turquoise looks best when it is paired with gold, white or black diamonds and coral. Since it offers such as bold look, the magical stone is often worn as the centerpiece of an outfit. Think lovely oversized necklace or smaller scale earrings in complimentary metals topped with a beautiful turquoise ring to emanate a fashion forward look. The stones are often set in floral as well abstract designs.

It is a gem that immediately conjures up thoughts of tropical islands and deep blue seas and brightens anyone who wears it be it any skin type, but the most important element to remember is you gotta wear this precious stone with confidence and in your own style!

Blake Lively's Flings with Bling at Toronto

Blake Lively never ceases to stun me with her carefree yet matured sense of style. There’s something about the sun-kissed girl that keeps you guessing about what she would dole out to the next red-carpet fiesta. Every single outfit that the Gossip Girl actress dons seems like it was just randomly pulled out of her closet but she still manages to look effortlessly fashionable.

The 23-year-old actress arrived in Toronto to promote The Town, her upcoming film with Ben Affleck for the film festival pulling off a traveler-chic inspired look comprising of a baggy coat, hat, jeans and a Van Cleef & Arpels Alhambra Vintage Long Necklace with floral details that gave her wardrobe a feminine tinge.

A few hours later, the L.A lass maintained the masculine look for her film’s press conference but looked sophisticated in an ultra-chic silk beige cut-out blouse and a sexy pair of animal-print Christian Louboutin Pigalle python pumps.

(Photo by Jason Merritt/Getty Images)The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants actress showed that she knows a thing or two about pants herself as she rocked a pair of black belted draped ones, which emerged as the alternative to harem pants last year but still looked pretty fierce on Blake. The finishing touch to her layered look was naturally several long layered black bead chains. The strand of turquoise beads colorfully stood out at the centre and made this smart-casual look a hit.

Now her style for The Town premiere was a different saga altogether and it was girly glam power all the way. Blake wore her lovely hair down, dolled up and rightfully painted the town red in a seductive Chanel Fall 2010 Couture crimson-wine dress with rose petal details around the hip that looked absolutely gorgeous on the leggy beauty’s lean frame.

Her Christian Louboutin Big Lips 120 pencil pumps did their thing as did her black metallic earrings and three large cocktail rings with a large ruby ring as the centerpiece. Two words. Pure intoxication.

You can certainly look to Blake Lively for fashion inspiration, as she not only lets you into her fabulous wardrobe collection but also shows you that wherever you go, the right jewelry can always uplift an outfit beyond your wildest dreams. And guess what? She doesn’t even use a professional stylist! With her grasp on the latest fashion trends and amazing style sense, she truly doesn’t need one.

3 Easy Steps to Become a Hollywood Star: Red Carpet Diva Cameron Diaz

In our books, stealing is permitted only for one thing. CELEBRITY LOOKS of course! Do you want to go for that hot diva look that says you rule the red carpet? Let’s steal Cameron Diaz’s wardrobe for some inspiration now shall we? Tom Cruise and Cameron have reunited in action comedy, Knight and Day after Vanilla Sky and Cameron’s look for the movie’s premiere in Seville, Spain, serves as the perfect fashion recipe for all the diva-wannabes out there. It takes two to tango and only an additional step to shine like a Hollywood star:

Step 1: Become a black beauty

Choose a sexy black outfit with some shine and the perfect pumps. Cameron rocked an off-the-shoulder draped Lanvin Spring 2010 mini dress that had a belt detail, paired with a hot pair of Lanvin pump heels. The length need not be as short as Cameron’s but it solely depends on what complements your body type. Make sure it’s not too short that you’re not even able to sit comfortably in public without feeling like a conscious crouching tiger or an unhidden dragon for that matter. Simultaneously if the dress is too long you may end up looking like Morticia Addams from the Addams family which is not necessarily a good thing.

Step 2: Accessorize with ice for spice

It goes without saying that the ice/jewelry that you choose is what will spice up your outfit. The advantage of wearing black garb is that jewelry of almost any color and gemstone goes well with it, but this is the downside as well as the possibilities are simply endless and you may spend long hours wondering what bling would bring it. But the stars do shed some light here on how to sparkle like one. The secret behind a diva’s spark is to wear something out of the ordinary. Think outside the box. It may also be helpful to think big! Bold pieces certainly magnify your celebrity presence such as a cubic zirconia cocktail ring or large silver earrings.

Cameron accessorized with jewelry from House of Lavande and Falon which included a pair of big gold cabochon earrings with turquoise stones that really brought out her eyes and a thick colorful textured Swarovzski crystal cuff bracelet. But remember the golden rule: If you wear big earrings, cut out the neck wear & vice versa. It is imperative to add a unique personal touch to your jewelry too. Cameron’s playful personality shined through her chic black look via an unusual but funky pair of gold anklets.

Step 3: Classy Hairdo & Crimson Make-up

Usually, celebrities opt for a hair updo on the red carpet because one, that is simply the age-old norm and two, it gives maximum exposure to those super-sized earrings! But hey, you could always let your hair down for the after party. Cameron wore her messy trademark updo. Last but not the least, be armed with some scarlet lipstick to get that true Hollywood chic like Cameron to complete the look. And it could be pink-red, cherry or maroon if you have a tan.

So there you have it, the three fashion steps to red-carpet success. Ladies, it’s SHOWTIME!
